In relation to NE (New) parts, many OEMs change their prices and availability without any notice to dealers or the industry. Therefore, through the REQUEST or RFQ indication, we ask that customers contact us for the most accurate price and availability.

In relation to SV & OH parts, the used parts aftermarket in the aviation industry is not an infinite supply. It is a dynamic, constantly changing market that is significantly affected by and susceptible to highs and lows in supply and demand. Therefore, although we attempt to, at times, we are unable to predict the exact moment when an item may be available. Once again, through the REQUEST or RFQ indication on our website, we ask that customers contact us for the most current and accurate price and availability.

The Sandel ST3400 TAWS System is unique in that it can accept either a 2000 or 2500 ft. radio altimeter input as part of the Class A TAWS requirements. Most Class A TAWS systems require strictly a 2500 ft. input but Sandel was able to prove equivalency in the functionality of their system with only a 2000 ft. input.
The ST3400 install kit (P/N 90130-IK) includes the following items:
  • Installation Manual
  • 3ATI Mounting Clamp
  • D15 Std Density Connector
  • D44 High Density Connector
  • Flush Mtg Shim
Many avionics systems require a configuration or setup process. This process is required to interface certain avionics systems to other systems in the aircraft that will be inputting or outputting information to and from these systems. Some examples of systems that require a configuration or setup process include:

Autopilot
EFIS
GPS
EGPWS
EHSI
RADAR
TAWS
TCAS

In addition, most newer technology or solid state systems require configuration via computer interface of some type. A qualified avionics technician should always refer to the appropriate manufacturer's installation manual for complete information and instructions.
According to Sandel Service Bulletin SB3400-14, the backlight kits for units with serial numbers below 5000 are no longer available. Sandel has replaced the original backlight kit with a LED kit. The cost for the LED upgrade is $9980 for units with serial numbers below 2000 and $4980 for units with serial numbers below 5000 but greater than 2000.
The GPS-155XL will provide ARINC 429 GPS position information for the ST3400. This is acceptable for Class B requirements. The GPS-155XL does not provide GPS altitude data that may be used for Class A approval.

Yes, Sandel has recently released a service bulletin addressing this issue. The problem has been traced to improper manufacturing tolerances used in the installation of a plastic polarizer in optical system, which does not meet published specifications. Sandel has stated that this problem does not present a flight safety concern and that it is only a cosmetic defect. This service bulletin applies to all serial numbers, shipped prior to August 24, 2009.

A glass polarizer has been designed as a replacement that does not the present the discoloration problem. This part can be retrofitted by the factory into any LED backlit unit.

Identical service bulletins on this problem have also been issued for the SA4550, SN4500 and the SN3500.

Negotiating the exchange price of a unit only limits the allowable repair cap for the core unit. Southeast Aerospace's exchange transactions are based on the return of economically repairable core unit. Once the core is received and evaluated, the core repair cost incurred by SEA cannot exceed 75% of the original exchange price. That is, it cannot cost SEA more than 75% of the original OH/SV exchange price collected from the customer. Therefore, when and if an SEA exchange price is discounted, there is a risk that additional charges may be assessed once the core is returned and evaluated.

Sandel ST3400 units below serial number 5000 contain a discontinued style of backlight. The cost of the new LED backlighting kit depends on the serial number of the ST3400. Units with serial numbers 2000 and below will cost $9980 for the LED backlighting kit. Units with serial numbers between 2000 and 5000 will cost $4980 for the LED backlighting kit. Units above serial 5000 were originally manufactured with the new style LED backlight.

For more information, please contact the SEA Sales Team.
Southeast Aerospace does not offer Return To Service paperwork services on General Aviation aircraft for installations that we do not perform.

You might need the following items for your TAWS Installation:

Air Data Computer ADC-2000
TAWS Annunciator MD41-1208
OAT Probe 05257
GPS 1201 FreeFlight GPS
Altimeter w/Output 5934PAD-3BA.649P

Please note that these are suggestions for information purposes only and are not meant as a complete purchasing guide. A TAWS System is a complicated avionics installation and cannot be offered in a standardized list due to different aircraft and situation needs. For a complete and personalized system, please contact SEA Sales.

Similar to other manufacturers, the ordering or catalog part number is different than the part number actually printed on the physical unit. Sandel uses a numbering scheme for ordering new systems that begins with 5 numbers (ex. 90131). However, this part number is not on the actual dataplate of the unit. The part number on the unit will usually be similar to the model number with numbers following it (ex. ST3400-000).
