No, the Flightstream 510 cannot be used with the GDL-60 and should be removed if one is installed in the the aircraft.  The GDL-60 replaces all functions provided by the Flightstream 510 including Database Concierge and streaming weather, traffic, AHRS, and flight plans.

No, the GDL-60 has battery protections in place to ensure the aircraft battery is not depleted.  The GDL-60 monitors the aircraft battery voltage and will not download databases or wake up for Remote Aircraft Status (RAS) when the voltage falls below installer defined levels.  If database downloads are interrupted due to power, it will resume downloads once power is restored.

When new databases become available, the GDL-60 will wake up at a scheduled time (selectable by owner) using battery power. The GDL-60 will download all new and available databases.  When the avionics are powered on, the GDL 60 will synchronize databases across the displays.

These include:

  • Navigation, SafeTaxi® diagrams, Airport Directory, and Obstacles will update on the initial avionics bootup
  • Terrain and Basemap will activate on the next power cycle
  • FliteCharts®/ChartView™ databases and IFR/VFR Charts will sync in the background.

The GDL-60 is a Datalink unit that enables Garmin's PlaneSync technology.  PlaneSync is a aircraft connectivity feature that automatically updates avionics databases, and, depending on the installation, can log flight/engine data and remotely check fuel & systems status from the Garmin Pilot application.  The GDL-60 also provides use Connext to stream weather, traffic, AHRS, flight plans, and other data from avionics to flight apps such as Garmin Pilot and ForeFlight.

In relation to NE (New) parts, many OEMs change their prices and availability without any notice to dealers or the industry. Therefore, through the REQUEST or RFQ indication, we ask that customers contact us for the most accurate price and availability.

In relation to SV & OH parts, the used parts aftermarket in the aviation industry is not an infinite supply. It is a dynamic, constantly changing market that is significantly affected by and susceptible to highs and lows in supply and demand. Therefore, although we attempt to, at times, we are unable to predict the exact moment when an item may be available. Once again, through the REQUEST or RFQ indication on our website, we ask that customers contact us for the most current and accurate price and availability.
