KX-200 OVERVIEW

The KX-200 has been designed to directly replace existing legacy KX-155 and KX-165 radios. For 14 and 28 volt applications, a separate adapter is required for each of these installations. Since it is a direct replacement for the KX-155 and KX-165, it is intended to utilize the same preexisting rack and connectors from the original KX-155/165 installation. Therefore, it is recommended that a visual inspection of the rack backplate and existing connectors be done to ensure proper connection with the new KX-200. Cleaning and reseating of the connector pins might be necessary as well.

As of the August 2023 announcement of the KX-200, it is only intended to be a direct replacement for the KX-155 and KX-165 radios. That is, not the KX-155A or KX-165A. Replacement for the KX-155/165A radios will be announced at a later date.

Since many aircraft now have more modern avionics displays and indicators from manufacturers such as Garmin, it should be noted that, for the most part, the KX-200 is an analog radio. Therefore, it, most likely, does not have any advanced interface capabilities to products such as the Garmin G5, GI-275, G3X or G500/600.

For all intents and purposes, the KX-200 may be a very good solution for those aircraft owners who look to alleviate some of the issues with their legacy KX-155/165 radios (ex. gas discharge displays) without a completely new installation of a nav/comm radio. Furthermore, there are very few manufacturers remaining who produce a dedicated, federated “nav/comm” radio so options are limited. The KX-200 is intended to be a true, “slide-in”, direct replacement without the need for any physical, panel or wiring changes. For additional information or a comparison of the KX-200 to other available nav/comm radios, please Contact Us at any time.

As of 2023, the outputs for the KX-200 are analog. Therefore, it will inteface legacy CDIs or HSIs such as the BendixKing KI-209.  For its initial release, the KX-200 is not intended to be interfaced with modern digital indicators and displays that require a digital input.

As of August 2023, the new KX-200 is the only radio intended as a direct, slide-in replacement for the legacy KX-155/165 radios.  At one time, TKM Avionics intended to produce and market their MX-155 radio. However, this Arizona based company, went out of business several years ago.

Garmin offers their GNC-255 line of nav/comms.  However, it is a new installation as it uses different rack & connectors and is different in size.

As of the August 2023 announcement of the KX-200, it is only intended to be a direct replacement for the KX-155 and KX-165 radios. Replacement for the KX-155/165A will be announced at a later date.

While the KX-200 is a direct replacement for the KX-155/165, an adapter is required for each 14 or 28 volt installation.

You should purchase one of the following adapters when you purchase the KX-200 radio:

PN 89000002-122 for 14 volt or 89000002-121 for 28 volt

In relation to NE (New) parts, many OEMs change their prices and availability without any notice to dealers or the industry. Therefore, through the REQUEST or RFQ indication, we ask that customers contact us for the most accurate price and availability.

In relation to SV & OH parts, the used parts aftermarket in the aviation industry is not an infinite supply. It is a dynamic, constantly changing market that is significantly affected by and susceptible to highs and lows in supply and demand. Therefore, although we attempt to, at times, we are unable to predict the exact moment when an item may be available. Once again, through the REQUEST or RFQ indication on our website, we ask that customers contact us for the most current and accurate price and availability.
